Recently, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend during intuitive medicine sessions, and it has me worried for all women. I fear it has become a pandemic, and if, like me, you’re not worried about the other p(l)andemic that’s terrifying people all over the globe (thank you mainstream media!), well ladies, you should be worried about this one.
Now, don’t go rushing out to stock up on toilet paper (honestly…toilet paper? What is the go with that?), just hear me out first, because this isn’t something that can be fixed by stocking up on loo paper.
The chakras

To start with, a quick overview of the chakras – root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown. The chakras are energy centres that run up/down the midline of the body, front and back – with the root chakra in the groin/pelvic region, through to the crown chakra on (you guessed it) the crown of the head.
At the root of the disturbing trend I’ve been observing is, funnily enough, the root chakra. Technically, the root chakra isn’t actually the root of the problem though – although it does make for a fun play on words! The root chakra is merely a guide or, in this case, a bright red flashing warning light.
The check engine light
You see, the root chakra is kind of like the check engine light on your car’s dashboard – if it’s lit up, something is not right with the mechanics and it needs to be fixed before it’s too late. We all know that if you ignore your check engine light for too long, pretty soon other things start to malfunction or stop working altogether. A chain reaction of malfunctioning parts takes place, and if you continue to ignore your check engine light for way too long, pretty soon it all just stops, and usually at the most inconvenient time and in the most inconvenient place (like on a major highway on a typical North Queensland 35C day, with two young kids in the backseat….).
What the heck have cars breaking down got to do with chakras I hear you ask….
OK, so the root chakra is the energy centre that represents our physical health. It is all about our vitality, immunity, energy levels, etc. – it covers everything physical, right down to the cellular level. And, if the root chakra isn’t healthy and balanced and in good working order, with all of the bits and pieces inside of us working in harmony to maintain equilibrium, a chain reaction is set off within our bodies. If we ignore our physical health for long enough, our bodies get to the point where they just don’t run well at all, and they breakdown well before they should.
During intuitive medicine sessions I start with a chakra scan – top to bottom, or root chakra to crown chakra. I can almost predict what I’m going to come across during the rest of the session, based upon what the root chakra tells me.
And, ladies, what your root chakras have been telling me is not pretty at all, and it makes me feel alarmed for the health of all women, and for the health of humanity, as it is my belief that women’s health is the prime indicator for the health of the overall population (note to self: that’s a blog post for the near future right there!)

I have been seeing root chakras that are barren like the desert, with hardly any life in sight; root chakras that others are constantly taking huge bites from; root chakras that are dry and shrivelled up; root chakras that are droopy and saggy. Even my own root chakra looks beaten down and smashed to bits at times.
It is so rare for me to see a root chakra that is healthy and full of life, and I find that incredibly disturbing, and I feel so sad for all of womankind.
Time for a safety check
I am seeing women who feel fatigued, beaten down, burnt out, sluggish, weighed down, neglected, exhausted, and worn out, and they come to me looking for the reason why, and I think they often expect me to say something a lot more complicated than
“You are doing way too much for everyone else and nowhere near enough for yourself”.

I don’t understand it – isn’t this the age of self-care and vision boards? Abundance and manifestation?
Why are so many women struggling to maintain even basic level physical health??
And why are we wearing it like a badge of honour?? “Yeh, I’m just so exhausted, and I’m probably not taking very good care of myself. But, you know, between the kids, my husband, work and the tiniest hint of a social life, I’m lucky if I have time to brush my hair each day, let alone meditate or workout! Hahahaha!”
I can hand-in-the-air own that one. How about you?
Ladies, it’s time we stop playing the martyr, stop believing society’s crap about how selfless mothers and wives should be, and we should abso-freaking-lutely stop putting our health at the bottom of our to-do lists!
As women, we may naturally fall into the caretaker role, and we may even secretly enjoy how much our kids, partners and friends need us (after all, who doesn’t like to feel needed!), but how on earth are we supposed to take care of everyone else when we don’t take care of ourselves??
It’s gonna cost ya
What if you woke up in the morning and you physically couldn’t do everything you normally do for everyone else? What about if you couldn’t the next morning either, or the next, or the next…?

Think it won’t happen to you? Yeh, I thought that too, until fibromyalgia took over my body and my life just before my 30th birthday.
Please, trust me when I say that there’s a time limit on how long you can ignore your physical health before it becomes impossible to ignore how unhealthy you are.
And once more,
There’s a time limit on how long you can ignore your physical health before it becomes impossible to ignore how unhealthy you are.
I’m not saying this from a place of judgement or as someone who thinks they have it all figured out when it comes to their health. My words come from a place of love and wanting all of us to step into a space where we are in control of our own health as women, and as women who are mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, aunties, and besties, I want us all to shine freaking bright with vitality, energy and life!
Get your motor runnin’
I have been doing this amazingly powerful root chakra visualisation every morning and it helps me to start my day with my motor running at full capacity. I have seen it completely restore and replenish root chakras before my very eyes during intuitive medicine sessions! It’s certainly not the complete solution to the doing-way-too-much-for-everyone-else-and-nowhere-near-enough-for-yourself pandemic, but it’s a start.
I recommend completing this visualisation every morning, before you get going with your day, and at any time you feel you need a boost.
Before you go back to your to-do list, take a moment to thank Mother Earth for her amazing, limitless, nurturing energy, which is available to us whenever we need it, and as often as we need it.
