This is the fourth article in a series of blog posts exploring the 7 chakras, and the role they play in your overall sense of wellness. This week I will be discussing how the health of your Heart Chakra affects and influences your health and well-being.
The chakras are energy centres situated in specific areas of the body. Each chakra plays a particular role in your overall health and well-being. Find out more about what the 7 chakras are and why they matter here and here.
If you missed my first three posts, all about your Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus Chakras, you can find them here and here and here. You might also like to watch my oracle card reading videos for these chakras, with healing messages from Spirit here and here and here.
Where is your Heart Chakra located?
Your Heart Chakra is located in the middle of your chest, and it includes the heart, lungs, and mid-upper back.
Why is your Heart Chakra important?
A healthy, balanced, open Heart Chakra is typically seen as a soft pink and/or light green colour. Many don’t realise that the Heart Chakra is an inflow of energy, not outflow. The energy of your Heart Chakra should be focused on welcoming in a free flow of unconditional love – i.e. love for self.
The health of your Heart Chakra can have a significant impact on your overall health and well-being. It is the energy centre for unconditional love, compassion, empathy, relationships, friendships – with a primary focus on YOU.
Your Heart Chakra connects your lower chakras, and the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of health, with your upper chakras. (I’ll be writing about the upper chakras in the weeks to come.) It is the connection between your body, mind, and soul.
A client’s Heart Chakra can tell me a great deal about how their overall health and well-being. A scan can tell me how they feel about themselves, and their sense of worthiness. I can see whether they take action from a place of love or fear. And, of course, a client’s Heart Chakra can tell me a lot about how their (past and present) relationships are affecting them.
It is a rarity for me to see a client with a completely open Heart Chakra with a healthy inflow of non-judgmental love; however, we should all aspire to this. A healthy inflow of love into the heart nourishes the mind, body, and soul!
How can you tell if your Heart Chakra is healthy or not?
The simplest way to know if your Heart Chakra is balanced and healthy is to check in with it in your mind’s eye. I described how to do this for your Root Chakra here – the process is the same for each of the 7 chakras.
There are also signs and symptoms that can help you to know if your Heart Chakra is thriving or not:
Healthy & balanced | In need of attention |
Feeling loved and appreciated Open to new and existing connections Healthy, supportive relationships Comfortable with own emotions Content, at peace within, self-acceptance Effortless decision-making Ready to do the work to heal | Feeling closed off, isolated, disconnected Feeling unappreciated, taken for granted Uninterested in new connections Toxic, or overly complicated, relationships Indecisive, rely heavily on other’s opinions Feeling unworthy, unsupported, unloved Uncomfortable in own skin; ‘scattered’, restless |
What can you do to keep your Heart Chakra healthy and balanced?
As mentioned above, energy needs to flow primarily into the Heart Chakra, rather than from it. This can be a tricky concept for most of us, as we are taught from a young age the importance of loving and giving to others.
We tend to associate prioritising ourselves with being selfish or uncaring. The truth is, though, that we can offer so much more of our true selves to others when take care of our own needs first. So, really, taking care of ourselves, and loving ourselves is the ultimate in selflessness!
When you become adept at filling yourself up with all of the love you need, you no longer rely on others to make you feel loved. This means you can freely give to loved ones with joy and without fear. When your Heart Chakra is open and healthy, you are more resilient. You can love others and be loved without resentment, expectations, or ‘rules’.
Do more of what brings you joy and makes you feel free! Learn to be comfortable in your own company. Love all of you – even the parts you want to change. Remember that love is all that really exists – we all come from love and we are all made of love. Love is all there is!
This healing Heart Chakra visualisation came to me from Spirit during a meditation. It is a beautiful visualisation for healing and re-opening your heart to the inflow of love.
